As an adoptee from the closed system of the 1960's, I have grown up with many fanciful imaginings to fill the complete void in real information about my biological beginnings. One of my fantasies, not really related to being adopted, crawled into my heart in grade two after I read "Charlotte's Web" by E.B. White. My first hero was one of the main characters of the story, Charlotte the spider. She was graceful, smart and practical, and fiercely loyal. And she used her writing talent to help save her friend's life. When I was seven years old, I wanted to be just like Charlotte. | A few decades have passed and I've been given lots of opportunity to practice my writing through work as a lawyer (thankfully, no one's life has depended upon it), and I took up the challenge of acting as Editor of the ADOPTION CIRCLES quarterly Newsletter for the Forget Me Not Family Society. Walters' Web is a regular feature with my personal musings and opinions on anything relating to adoption. I share my experience growing up as an adoptee as well as my opinions, as an adopted adult, on books, movies, laws, and theories that touch upon adoption. Some of my articles and poems were written before I started searching for my biological family, some while I was going through a 4-year process of searching, and others while I was in the beginning ("honeymoon") stage of reunion. You may notice some differences in my attitudes and opinions over time. I invite anyone with a comment in response to send me an e-mail via the "Contact Me" link (at the top of the site). Please also let me know of your connection to adoption. Thank you. |
The Forget Me Not Family Society is a non-profit society formed for education, consultation, peer counseling and to offer support to all those touched by adoption: adoptees, biological parents, adoptive parents, and concerned professionals.
